Communication: How do you communicate with students and their families?

The majority of information is communicated through emails. Therefore, it is very important that we receive your correct email address and any updates when it changes. If you do not have an email address, please let us know and we will make sure that you receive a paper copy of all information.

Behavioral Discipline Policy: Do you discipline the children in class?

Our teachers do not anticipate problems but in the case that students are behaviorally disruptive, we follow a Discipline Procedure. It goes as follows: quiet warning, quiet warning, and if behavior persists, child will be asked to sit along the wall. Parents are notified after class. If behavior still continues, the child will be dismissed from class.

Parent Observation: Are we allowed to watch class?

The only time that parents are allowed to watch class is during Parent Observation Week and Videotape Week. Parent Observation Week is reserved only for parents, not for extended family. Parents are encouraged to come and watch their student’s progress for the entire class. Videotape Week is held during the first week of April and May. Parents are encouraged to come to the last five minutes of class to video their recital dances. Children are encouraged to practice with their videos at home.

Waiting Rooms: Do we wait while our children are in class or are we allowed to leave the studio?

You are welcome to do either! If you choose to wait, please see the information on the waiting rooms below.

Sewickley Waiting Room

The dance studio has a small waiting room. Please enter the second floor of the Henning House quietly (as other classes will be in session) and go directly to the waiting room. I encourage all parents to drop off their children and leave the studio during class. If you decide to wait in the room, you must keep the door closed at all times. If you or your children become too noisy it is an extreme distraction to the class, and your children end up missing out. Students must wait in the waiting room until the teacher calls their class by name.

Cranberry Waiting Room

The church has a lobby where the parents are welcome to wait. However, the studio does not have a dropped ceiling, which is great for dance but not for sound! Please be considerate while you wait. If you or your children become too noisy it is an extreme distraction to the class, and as a result, your children end up missing out. If your child gets restless, parents and children are encouraged to use the Nursery and Ark Room, both of which have toys. Please clean up all toys when you are finished in the room.

Commitment: What is the commitment when signing up?

At the time of registration, you are registering your child in the 9 month program, September-May. Tuition is non-refundable. Please consider that when choosing your payment option. If you are uncertain if your child will like class, choose the monthly payment option. If your child does not like the class, you are welcome to withdraw at any time. Please keep in mind that tuition is non-refundable. Students will not be refunded for missed classes. They are able to take another class to make up for an absence.

Registration: When is the last day to register?

Because we order recital costumes in January, the last day to register for the year is January 15. Nonetheless, it is always best to start at the beginning of the year so that your child is not behind.

Attendance: Do you have an attendance policy?

Yes. Failure to attend class, regardless of payment, may jeopardize your child’s growth in dance. It also jeopardizes the recital performance for all the children in the class. If your student misses more than 2 dance classes in April and May, your child may not be in the new section of the dance or may require private lessons. If your child is sick or injured and they are still able to watch class, we ask that they do so. Please notify your teacher when your child will be absent.

Costumes: Will my child wear a revealing costume? How much will it cost?

We will always choose honorable clothing that is age-appropriate for the performance. For each class, the cost of the costumes will range from $35-55. For a sample of our costumes, visit the website for pictures.

Costume deposits

This option is only offered to students in more than one class and is $20 per class. The deposit is due by November 1. The remaining costume balance is due by January 10. Monthly costume payment plans are available for parents.

Music: What kind of music do you use?

We use all types of music. There will be no profane lyrics in our music. Most of our songs are instrumental or inspirational.

Inclement Weather: What happens when there is inclement weather?

In the case of inclement weather, please call the studio answering machine 724-934-0555 or visit our Facebook Page to find out if class is cancelled. There will be no refunds or make-ups for cancelled classes due to inclement weather.
